The Herb moss pink, also called wild ground phlox, is one of the earliest widespread flowers of the spring, lending its name to this full moon. 

Other names include the Full Sprouting Grass Moon and the Egg Moon.  Among coastal tribes, it is known as the Full Fish Moon, for this is the season during which shad swim upstream to spawn.  Perhaps during this 1.2 mile round trip hike, we'll see the herb moss pink shining in the brilliance of the  moon.
