Every spring, naturalists, photographers, and nature-lovers flock to Pine Mountain to immerse themselves in one of the region's most prolific wildflower habitats. In mid-April, the James E. Bickford State Nature Preserve on the campus of Pine Mountain Settlement School is in full bloom with over 100 species of wildflowers across the forest, including several species of trillium, showy orchids, dwarf crested iris, and more! 

To celebrate this colorful time of year, Pine Mountain Settlement School is hosting its annual Wildflower Weekend April 20-22. During this program, folks of all ages will participate in guided hikes along our forested trails, eat farm-fresh meals, and enjoy the beauty and relaxation of this environment.  On Friday evening, special guest speaker Allen C. Risk, Professor of Biology at Morehead State University, will present on the amazingly  world of lichens at Pine Mountain.  Dr. Risk will tell guests about the Commonwealth's most bio-diverse lichen-covered boulder located right on the Settlement School's campus.  

Cost is $225 for an adult and $125 for children ages 6-12. There is no charge for children ages 5 years and under.

Lodging is provided on Friday and Saturday nights. Visitors may stay in dormitory or cottage-style housing. Bathrooms are shared. Single rooms available upon request.

Meals are provided from Friday dinner through Sunday lunch. Homegrown vegetables are served as much as possible. Vegetarians options are available with advance notice.
