Red bats are just one of ten bat species to call Cumberland Gap NHP home. These bats are often seen dipping and diving under street lights feeding on moths and beetles at dusk. Red bats will hibernate in hollow trees instead of caves during the winter months and can survive in temperatures just above freezing.
To learn more about red bats, join Cumberland Gap rangers for “Batty about Bats!” program Saturday, August 26th at 7:30 p.m. in Bartlett Park Picnic Area.
